I grabbed my bag, headed into the women's change tent, and found a chair. Unlike after the swim, there were only a handful of other women in there, and it was a lot less stiflingly hot! I dumped the bag out on the floor, shoved my helmet, shoes, and bike socks inside, and then spent an inordinate amount of time pulling my compression socks onto my sweaty legs.
It was Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-14779998372900589262018-08-23T12:38:00.001-04:002018-08-24T11:23:35.302-04:00Ironman Mont Tremblant: The BikeSee the Swim post here.
I ran into the transition tent, grabbed my T1 bag (I noted some athletes had added brightly coloured tape to their bags to make them easier to spot, although since they were in numerical order it wasn't tough to find mine), and made my way into the women's change tent. And did my first good deed of the day, grabbing a woman who was about to walk into the men's tent and Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-73724406864124462372018-08-22T19:43:00.001-04:002018-08-23T12:39:26.329-04:00Ironman Mont Tremblant: The SwimPre race post here.
Yeah, didn't so much get a lot of sleep. I fell asleep for a few hours, woke up at 11:30 (OMG it's only 11:30?), got back to sleep at some point and then was wide awake at 3:30. I figured I was best off just lying quietly and trying to relax (fat chance) but by 4:30 I couldn't take it anymore and got up. Oh man my thoughts are such a jumbled mess right now I can't even. Just going to start typing here and see what comes out. First things first, I AM AN IRONMAN now, so spoiler alert if you haven't been following along on my instagram, it was kind of the most awesome race ever and now I'm going to write about 30,000 words about it. Figured I'd sprew out some pre-race stuff while we wait for the Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-23482006439895278922018-08-13T15:01:00.001-04:002018-08-13T15:01:09.949-04:00Ironman training week whatever - IT'S RACE WEEKso that's it.
Didn't I just register for this thing? How is it race week already?
Excuse me, I'm going to go stare at the current weather forecast and try and will it into not changing, cause it looks pretty decent right now. Also, the water temps are just barely wetsuit legal at the moment so we're going to focus on maybe that coming down a few degrees, please.

So this week was kind of it, really. Now into the true taper. The fitness is either there or it isn't. Time to cut back a bit, organize all my gear, and attempt to avoid too much panic buying of all sorts of random things I might suddenly decide I simply MUST HAVE (uh, yeah, I did place a $100 order with Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-72996412647204949382018-07-30T13:52:00.001-04:002018-07-30T13:52:06.515-04:00Ironman training week 30 - 3 weeks to goGood lord, 30 weeks? And I've manage to blog them? That's the real challenge, here, trying to find something to say every week.
This week was not as originally planned, but overall I'm in a good spot to start TAPER. Although with the lack of running I feel like I've already been tapering for about 2 weeks, but hey, the 5 week long taper, it's the newest thing. Everyone is going to be doing it!

Swim: 9050m
Bike: 248km
Run: 66km
I looked it up and that's the most run mileage I've done in a week since I trained for the Mississauga Marathon back in 2014! And then I was only running, not adding in all this other nonsense. That's kind of blowing my mind, to be honest. I remember how Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-79039329078248622972018-07-03T12:37:00.000-04:002018-07-03T12:37:15.207-04:00Ironman training week 26 - Specialty plan week 1First week of the last 8 week block, which means things are getting close and it's time to build up that last little bit of fitness and then hopefully be ready to accomplish something cool in August. Basically a solid month of hard long distance training to go.
How'd week one go? I'm having some trouble remembering given my last two days were spent mostly doing stuff like the below, but I'll Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-48422146861517950522018-06-26T12:34:00.002-04:002018-06-26T12:34:56.243-04:00Welland Long Course triathlon 2018
First triathlon of the year!
The story starts Friday night, with me being generally laid back and lazy and tossing all my shit together at the last minute. What a change from when Welland was my first ever tri a few years ago and I was Prepared and Ready and Organized. Now I'm all 'Whatevs, I'm sure it'll all work itself out'.
Spoiler: I kind of fucked myself over on this one. But that's Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-70681188323723198262018-06-25T12:20:00.003-04:002018-06-25T12:20:59.960-04:00Ironman training week 25 - recovery part IIBeen a long time since I had such a low weekly total for # of hours (I think I'd have to go back to December), but I did do a race, and the next 5-6 weeks shit gets crazy before I get into the taper (aiiieeee), so another down week seemed like a pretty good idea.
Swim: 9000m
Bike: 111k (3:42)
Run: 35k
Really low week on the bike and the run, but I think that will pay off in the bigger picture. And due to starting my plan a week early to allow for potential issues (mostly I was worried about getting sick), I now have a free week in my schedule I have to figure out, which is really a good problem to have. Next week I'll start the specialty plan for the final push to Tremblant, so this week is about a little more recovery and maintenance. And then Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-45025515373057965612018-06-11T13:16:00.002-04:002018-06-11T13:16:29.189-04:00Ironman training weeks 22 & 23 - including Moon in June 5kA little bit of catch up - my heart wasn't in doing a recap last week so just a brief summary of week 22 to keep things complete.
Just about done the build plan now, which means I have to figure out what to do with the extra week in my schedule, and get ready for the Welland long course tri!

This picture is from a few years ago, when I helped as a lead cyclist at the Road to Hope for the first time. The guy on the end (left side) with the cowbell is Jeff.
I didn't know Jeff super well, but I saw him at Gulliver's a lot for team swims, rode with him a bit on at least one of the Brian Smith charity Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-4437648546666293802018-05-28T12:38:00.001-04:002018-05-28T12:38:09.904-04:00Ironman training week 21I'd say something boring like 'wow this was a big week' but at this point they are all big weeks, so what would be the point? Usual sort of week. Did a lot of stuff. Feeling good. Very hungry.
(the amount of food I am eating these days...oh man. Post Ironman is going to be quite an adjustment.)

I always look forward to the recovery and then for some reason it never really feels all that restful. Some of the workouts this week, ugh. They felt harder than the objectively more difficult ones from the week before! But that tends to happen a lot on recovery weeks, so it wasn't really a big surprise, and overall I do feel ready to tackle the next round of build workouts Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-39934876433418014982018-05-15T14:24:00.000-04:002018-05-15T14:24:44.959-04:00Ironman training week 19Saw a few days ago that it's now less than a hundred days to race day, which once again was another rude shock that I'm actually planning to do this. WHAT. Well, that and the fact that I'm now into my first recovery week of the build plan, which means not that many more 4 week cycles to go through. Eep.
Fortunately, this was a really great, confidence building week. Also the most training hours Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-76504962389994404142018-05-07T12:38:00.003-04:002018-05-07T12:38:40.697-04:00Ironman training week 18Usual sort of week around here - juggling workouts around events and weather weirdness. Didn't quite fit everything in but got close enough.
Swim: 7000m
Bike: 6:05 (164k; 80 outside)
Run: 51km
Monday: TR - Triple Divide
Switched things up a bit this week because my daughter turned 13 on Tuesday (aieeeeeeeeeeeeeee teenager in the house!), so I got my usual Tuesday ride done on Monday Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-21240129171040236252018-04-30T12:57:00.001-04:002018-04-30T12:57:04.946-04:00Ironman training week 17 - on to the build planStarting the build plan makes this all feel a little more real, somehow. Yikes. And this week got really complicated to fit everything in...
Swim: 8200m
Bike: 176 km (76 outside) (6:30)
Run: 51k
Monday: rest
Tuesday: 2500m swim; TR ramp test + South Twin -1
back and forth, back and forth
Really solid swim. After swim, I looked at my mileage summaries and to this day this year that's 116 kmEmmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-60341059917574536732018-04-23T12:43:00.002-04:002018-04-23T12:43:29.761-04:00Ironman training week 16 - wait that was a recovery week?!That really didn't feel much like a recovery week. Somehow it only ended up 3 hours lighter than the peak week. But there was some fun stuff in there, so let's get to it.
Base training is OVER.
Swim: 8100m
Bike: 178 km (86 outside! 3:15 on trainer)
Run: 38 km
Monday: REST
Tuesday: 2600m swim; TR Bird -1
Another really solid swim. This week was week 11 of the Trainerroad plan, which meant the biggest hours of the whole plan before the final week, which is a recovery week.
Things went really well, when mother nature allowed them too. It got a bit messy over the weekend, shall we say, and I have just the tiniest bit of regret over missing my recovery run Emmahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07455307792115305791noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7694157710052575811.post-4087024474505003132018-04-09T12:45:00.001-04:002018-04-09T12:45:27.704-04:00Ironman training week 14Getting so close to the end of the base building phase now! This is both exciting (ooooh a new training plan to obsess over) and terrifying (there are only how many more months until race day?!).
This was a really great week, though, so I'm feeling confident. Had really solid workouts across all three sports and I'm feeling very fit right now. Just have to maintain that and stay healthy.
